Ergosa C Vertical Mode: Is It Right for My Company?

IMPACK Packaging’s best-selling machine to date is the Ergosa series.

It is a versatile semi-automatic folder-gluer packer that offers 3 different packing modes: the Horizontal Mode, the Vertical Mode, and Pick and Place mode.

Each mode best serves a particular kind of company. The Horizontal Mode best serves companies that produce smaller to medium-sized boxes.

The Pick and Place Mode best serves manufacturers that produce more complex boxes that require continual adjustments or correction.

The Vertical mode best serves manufacturers that produce medium to larger or heavier boxes.

In this article, we will explore the Ergosa C’s Vertical mode, what it is, how it works, and whether your company could benefit from one.

What Is the Ergosa C Vertical Mode?

The Ergosa C's Vertical Mode is an additional option that can be added to your Ergosa C package.

This mode offers an ergonomic and high-performance solution for handling complex shapes and heavy straight lines, as well as 4/6 corner boxes.

The Vertical Mode is a commonly included option as part of the Ergosa C package, but it is not required.

You can choose to purchase only the options and modes you need, allowing you to omit any unnecessary options that you will never use.

Nevertheless, if your production needs change in the future, you can add the Vertical Mode to your Ergosa C packer at any time without having to replace your existing packer or make additional big purchases.

This is a significant advantage because it allows you to adapt your production to changing requirements without having to spend more money.

It is also important to note that the Vertical Mode is exclusively available as an option for the Ergosa C packer and cannot be retrofitted to the Ergosa A at a later time.

In conclusion, the Ergosa C's Vertical Mode is an excellent option that provides versatility, flexibility, and cost savings to your production.

It is a simple "plug and play" solution that can be added at any time, and it is only one of the many options available with the Ergosa C packer.

By choosing the Ergosa C, you can ensure that you have access to all the necessary options to handle any packing requirements that may arise in the future.

How Does the Vertical Mode Work?

Packing in Folder Gluer Packer Ergosa C Vertical Mode edited

Traditionally, manual packing involves lifting small loads of boxes limited by how much each packing person can carry per movement.

This method is labor-intensive, and the packing speed is limited by the amount of weight the packing person can handle.

The Vertical Mode, however, provides an alternative packing solution that uses the "PerPack Module" to allow you to pack a full row of boxes in a single motion by pushing the entire row of boxes into the case.

This eliminates the need for lifting loads and reduces the number of packing persons needed at the station.

With the Vertical Mode, you can push a full row of boxes in one motion, significantly increasing the number of boxes per movement compared to traditional manual packing.

This results in a higher packing speed and productivity rate, with the Vertical Mode capable of producing more than 80,000 boxes per hour on the folder-gluer.

In summary, the Vertical Mode eliminates the need for lifting loads and reduces the number of packing persons needed, resulting in increased productivity rates and packing speeds.

It offers an ergonomic and efficient packing solution that can benefit any production process.

Let’s now explore the boxes it is most suitable for.

What Kind of Boxes Is the Vertical Mode Best Suited For?

4/6 Corners Boxes

While the Horizontal Mode can handle small 4/6 corners, it is not the most suitable mode for larger 4/6 corners due to its limitations.

In addition, the Horizontal Mode typically requires a box turner to rotate the boxes 90°, which can be a challenge for understack box shingles commonly used in 4/6 corners.

On the other hand, the Vertical Mode is designed to handle both overstack and understack box shingles without requiring a box turner to rotate the boxes.

This makes it a more versatile and efficient option for packing 4/6 corners of various sizes.

Straight Line Boxes

While the Horizontal Mode is suitable for straight line boxes, it has certain limitations.

It can only handle compact cardboard boxes of small to medium size and a maximum weight of 10-12kg per row.

However, for large and heavy straight line boxes made of corrugated cardboard, such as bag-in-box, the Vertical Mode is a better fit.

Handling larger and heavier boxes can be challenging, but the Vertical Mode's design and working principles optimize the operator's efficiency and provide a more ergonomic method of operation.

This mode also helps maximize the productivity of the folder-gluer. By choosing the appropriate mode for your specific needs, you can streamline your packing process and improve your overall efficiency.

Crash-lock Automatic Bottom Boxes

To efficiently pack crash-lock/auto-bottom boxes, the Ergosa C packer in Vertical Mode can be paired with the MFA Batch Inverting Module.

While it's possible to pack these boxes using the Pick & Place Mode (or Manual Mode), it's not as fast or ergonomic as packing them on the Ergosa C's Vertical Mode with the MFA Batch Inverting Module.

Using this combination provides the fastest and most efficient way to pack complex boxes, and it can significantly reduce setup time.

The MFA Batch Inverter is one of the easiest and most fully automated methods available on the market for inverting batches of your crash-lock/auto-bottom boxes.

Would My Company Benefit from the Vertical Mode?

The Ergosa C’s Vertical Mode is a simple “plug and play” solution that can be added at any time on your Ergosa C.

The Vertical Mode provides an ergonomic and efficient solution for your packing person, the “PerPack Module” allows them to pack a full row of boxes in a single motion by pushing the entire row of boxes into the case.

Your company would greatly benefit from the Ergosa C’s Vertical Mode if:

  • You produce medium to large 4/6 corner boxes.
  • You produce medium to large heavy straight line boxes.
  • You produce crash-lock automatic bottom boxes and you plan to pair it with an MFA Batch Inverter.

In summary, the Vertical Mode provides a more adaptable and versatile packing solution for medium to large 4/6 corners, straight lines, and crash-lock/auto-bottoms, while eliminating the need for a box turner and enabling the packing for both overstack and understack box shingles.
