Productivity Talks Episode 1: History of the ERGOSA and Recent Design Updates

In this edition of Productivity Talks, Managing Director Mathieu Tremblay explains the history of the development of the ERGOSA and the recent design updates.

ERGOSA Design Update Leads to a More Flexible, Modular Plug-and-play System

In this episode, we explore the evolution of IMPACK’s ERGOSA semi-automatic packer—from its origins as a solution for fast changeovers between many box types to today’s refined, modular system. Discover how client feedback, engineering innovation, and real-world production needs led to its development as well as upgrades in functionality and layout flexibility.

The Backstory

The ERGOSA wasn’t born from a blueprint—it was born from real conversations with clients. When packaging producers asked for fully automated packing solutions, IMPACK engineers quickly discovered that short runs and an ever-changing mix of complex box types made full automation impractical for many. What clients truly needed was a smarter, more flexible semi-automatic solution.

That’s when the concept of the ERGOSA was born.

Organic Growth, Real-World Testing

Over time, the ERGOSA grew into a mature, modular system. With each new client came new challenges—and new solutions. Engineers added tooling, functions, and modules to meet specific production needs. But because the system evolved piece by piece, some components became incompatible or hard to interchange.

The 2024 Redesign: True Modularity

IMPACK has reviewed the ERGOSA and introduced design changes that have turned it into a fully modular, plug-and-play system. Every module now works seamlessly with the rest, giving clients total freedom to start with a base configuration and scale up as their needs evolve.

One of the most significant advancements is the unification of the system’s architecture. What were once two distinct product lines—ERGOSA A (compact) and ERGOSA C (modular)—have now been fully integrated into a single, streamlined ERGOSA platform. This eliminates confusion, improves compatibility, and allows for greater customization across a wide range of layout scenarios.

Whether starting small or investing in a more comprehensive setup, the new design offers a clear and scalable upgrade path that grows alongside a client’s production needs.

ERGOSA: Same Ergonomics. New Flexibility.

The design updates have led to an adjustment to the product line name. As announced in our March 14, 2024 Press Release: "Previously, IMPACK offered two models: the partially modular ERGOSA C and the non-upgradable, compact ERGOSA A. The product line will now simply be called ERGOSA."
