Written by Natascha Döme | January 8, 2024

The packaging industry is a cornerstone of modern commerce, ensuring that products reach consumers safely and securely. However, this industry faces a host of challenges, from demographic shifts to sustainability concerns, which can impact the efficiency and profitability of manufacturers.  Natascha share's her insights so you can you hit these challenges head on and stay competitive.

Hello, I am Natascha Döme and I recently joined IMPACK as the Area Sales Manager in Germany.

Our industry is navigating a challenging landscape defined by demographic shifts, sustainability demands, and a need for diversity and innovation. In my opinion, we at IMPACK folder-gluer peripherals, are at the forefront of addressing these challenges with innovative solutions that enhance productivity and sustainability.

The Demographic Challenge:

One of the primary challenges faced by our industry is demographic in nature. As the workforce in this sector ages, manufacturers find it increasingly difficult to recruit and retain technical talent. The demand for skilled workers remains high, yet the pool of potential employees is dwindling. This leads to a shortage of expertise and an urgent need for automation to fill the gap.

Sustainability and Decarbonization:

Another critical challenge is the pressing need for sustainability. In an era where environmental concerns are paramount, the packaging industry is under pressure to reduce its carbon footprint and minimize waste. Sustainability has become a central concern for manufacturers, as they seek to align with eco-friendly practices and reduce their impact on the environment.

Diversity and Innovation:

In recent times, diversity has gained prominence as an essential element of the packaging industry, with customers increasingly seeking new and innovative packaging designs. This creates a lot of challenges for producers with more changeovers, product mixes and shorter runs. Companies also want to harness the power of diverse ideas and perspectives to drive innovation, meet sustainability goals and optimize processes.
